Luma Shihab-Eldin is a graphic designer currently working with Wolff Olins Dubai to bring life to brands in the Middle East and beyond. After graduating from high school, Luma traveled to Beirut, Lebanon to pursue an undergraduate degree in Political Science at the American University of Beirut. Once there, she was jaded by the reality of politics and more intrigued by the power of visual communication and the fundamental impact it has on society. Formally trained as a graphic designer, she has always applied the construct that design increasingly influences our interconnected world, shaping perspectives and shifting cultures. She continued her training in New York where she got a masters in design entrepreneurship at the School of Visual Arts.Her work has earned her a Best of AIGA 2008 award and has been published several times including Baseline Magazine, Graphis Magazine and Graphis Designers USA No.3. Luma’s work has always placed an emphasis on establishing a sense of purpose. After 7 years of working in the design world in New York, Luma has moved back to the Middle East to see what Design means here today.
