In 2000, Steel was invited to study menswear at the Royal College of Art, London and awarded the Princess of Wales bursary. This was not due to having talent per se, but rather utilizing a dynamic combination of ideas & a what happens if approach. Told he would fail due to his unconventional working methods, he opened the degree show before exhibiting in Paris, Florence and Beijing. On graduating he started teaching at leading universities in the UK and internationally including Beijing, Taipei, Singapore & Hanoi. Since 2013 he has worked at the Lebanese American University, Beirut, where he visioneered a dynamic fashion program exploring the meaning of clothing in an emerging fashion economy. Menswear, unisex concepts, experimental fabrics, contour/stretch, tailoring; as well as branding, entrepreneurship etc. are all integral in developing a unique vision in beautiful Beirut & Lebanon.
